Important legislation, HR 664, is now before the US House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health. HR 664, introduced by Rep. Gene Green of Texas, would authorize the inclusion of doctors of chiropractic as officers in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. This federal service is described in the agency's website as one of the seven US uniformed services, and is comprised of:
"...an elite team of more than 6,500 full-time, well-trained, highly qualified public health professionals dedicated to delivering the Nation's public health promotion and disease prevention programs and advancing public health science...the Commissioned Corps fills essential public health leadership and service roles within the Nation's Federal Government agencies and programs.
Passage of this legislation would end the exclusion of doctors of chiropractic and thus bringing to this agency and the nation the skills, talents and resources of a new group of highly qualified professionals, plus a new perspective on health and healing so badly needed in the context of the current crisis in health care in the United States.
Please request your Congressional Representative to co-author HR 664.
